A day to kill in Stoughton

Monday we had a day to kill between our Sunday night and Monday night Stoughton performances. The crew and I had been looking forward to touring the New Glarus brewery about half an hour from Stoughton. The hotel kicked us out at 1:00 and we headed off to find some lunch. The lunch we found was at the New Glarus Hotel, we slipped in just under the wire as they stopped serving at 2p. Oh My God!!! This was the best meal that I've had in a long time. There was very little conversation once our food came, just contented yummy sounds! Swiss meatballs or Wienerschnitzel with Roesti (shredded potatos cooked with swiss cheese) and spaetzle. The highlight of the day was a home made horseradish honey mustard diping sauce which we proceeded to put on everything!

After lunch, even though we didn't eat again for the rest of the day, we went to the Maple Leaf Cheese and Chocolate house (excuse me... Haus) then the New Glarus meat market, bakery and several other wonderful shops. Finally, the mission of the day, The New Glarus brewery. It was a self guided tour and a tasting, we had a great time and almost all of us (Bill has some restraint!) took beer home with us! If you ever have a day to kill in the Madison area, I would highly recommend New Glarus!
